You can have the best
In life we often try to do a lot more than we can, we try fitting everything into this one short lifetime. The problem with trying to fit too much is that we risk never truly finding excellence in anything. For some of us it is even worse, aiming to accomplish too much simply overwhelms us and at some point this leads to just giving up on everything. The most ambitious and often most capable find themselves in this predicament at some point in their lives. It is important to remember in life that there are trade-offs for success.
Get rid of the junk
You cannot have it all – but you can have the best. I’m sure that some of you have been told that anything is possible, this is relatively true. However anything is not everything. In life you will find that at some point or another you are going to have to make trade-offs, you are going to have to focus if you want to achieve success. This does not mean you cannot have a balanced lifestyle, nor does it mean that you cannot try and experience different things in life. However the truth is you cannot have it all. You have to get rid of the junk to make space for the good stuff!
You cannot be in two places at once, if you want to find peace and truly succeed in life you will from time to time have to choose something to focus your energy on. Start by getting rid of the junk, if there are things in your life that are taking up your time and they really should not be there … get rid of the junk!
The first step in making room for success is getting rid of the activities that really don’t matter, the activities that don’t fulfill you and add no value to your life. Maybe you don’t want to hear this. I can understand how you feel but I am certain you have at least one thing you could live without but you are including it in your life anyway.
Make room for success – Focus
It is important to know what is really important to you. It is important to know what you want to keep because if you want to make the most of it, you are going to have to make some space. If you cannot quite figure out what to get rid of the best and simplest way to do it is – FOCUS.
Focus on the things that really matter to you and start filling up your schedule with them, don’t worry about the other things. Just fill your life with the things you want to focus on. The great creator made it simple, there are only so many hours between sunrise and sunset, focus on filling those hours with the things that really matter.
If you have commitments that don’t line up with what you want, ask yourself if you can live without them. Obviously some commitments cannot be dropped, however often what we perceive as a must is not truly necessary.
Make a list of only ten things that are truly necessary in your life and learn to make room for success. You might want to learn a new language, is this necessary for what you want to achieve in life? If yes keep it, if not maybe you should be focusing on something else. Do you want to learn how to play an instrument? Do you want to watch a particular TV show? Do you want to keep yourself up to date on international affairs? Do you want to relax in the sun?
The hardest junk to get rid of is the junk that looks good! Sometimes even great things like learning a new language etc might be junk if they don’t line up and leave room for success in the areas you really want to excel at. Of course if you want to be a great musician you are going to have to and should focus on learning your instrument, if you want to work in foreign relations you are probably going to need to know as many languages as possible and keep up to date with current affairs. On the other hand no matter how good something seems if it distracts from your major focus points you are going to have to get rid of the junk.
